An excellent opportunity for the right person to be part of the in-hand farming operation on Balcaskie Estate in the East Neuk of Fife.
With 350 suckler cows and 600 ewes, the enterprises recently completed conversion to become fully organic in 2018. Transition to a grass based system is currently underway and the expanding enterprises will form the key to the conversion of more land over the next two years to 1300 Ha.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience with both cattle and sheep and be able to demonstrate a high level of stockmanship. Rotational grazing and organic farming experience will be an advantage and they will be able to evidence mechanical competence and sympathy.
Working as part of a team and reporting to the farm manager, responsibilities will include;
• Grazing planning and grassland management
• Breeding stock purchasing
• Health and welfare of stock
• Managing seasonal staff to assist with calving and lambing
• Ability to work on own initiative and commitment to high welfare standards, tidiness and quality is essential.
The farm is well equipped and has invested in buildings, infrastructure, machinery and land.
A modern 4 bedroomed house is available with this role and local schools are excellent. 15 minutes from St Andrews, 40 minutes from Dundee and an hour from Edinburgh
Salary £28 – 32K per year.
